The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 8 of the regular season with a five-game losing streak and a roster that national power rankings view as severely compromised. While some lists place the team at 23rd, other analysts argue the squad belongs in the bottom five, a drop that reflects the team's poor performance since the loss of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, scoring 21 points but failing to sustain offensive momentum in the final two possessions. The defense allowed more than 400 total yards to Dallas, a team that had struggled earlier in the season to run the ball. The Cowboys recorded 204 rushing yards, and Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes in the win.

Injury concerns have deepened the roster issues. Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, acquired from the Green Bay Packers in April for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, missed the Monday game with an ankle injury. The Eagles signed Wicks to a one-year extension worth $12.5 million. Before the injury, he led the team with 16 catches that resulted in first downs and tied for the lead in receptions of 20 or more yards with three.

The Eagles also brought back running back Saquon Barkley from injury earlier this week. The move appears to have maximized the current offensive output, but the team remains heavily banged up. The defense, led by Vic Fangio, forced only two punts against Dallas and appeared flat for much of the game.

The Eagles started the season as legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl. They now face a reality check that could leave them with a top-five draft pick in April. The team controls its own 2028 NFL Draft picks, a factor analysts say could allow for a major push in free agency and the draft next year.

The 2027 season may be constrained by salary cap issues, but the current roster still holds enough talent to compete in individual games. The effort level against Dallas, however, was described as uninspiring, with the offense ceasing to move the ball effectively in the second half. The team's path out of this slump remains unclear as the season quickly unravels.
