A Clippers supporter attempted to outshine LeBron James during a halftime intermission at Intuit Dome on Friday night, only to miss four consecutive free throws after taunting the star. The incident unfolded during a shooting contest segment between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The fan stepped onto the court and addressed the crowd before beginning his attempt. “I feel good and I’m gonna show LeBron how a 40-year-old is supposed to do it,” he said. He then positioned himself near the right corner of the rim to take his shots.
The shooter appeared off balance before his first attempt. He required four tries to make his initial basket. After moving to the front left side of the line, he missed three more shots in a row. The video clip ended before he concluded the challenge.
The footage spread quickly on X after the account @Shane00 posted it with the caption, “Perfect representation of LeBron haters.” Within six hours, the post received 184,700 views, 2,800 likes, 238 reposts, 298 saves, and 62 comments. Basketball fans flooded the comment section to mock the man’s performance.
User @IshbakaTheDemon replied, “I mean that is how 40 year is supposed to do it🤣buddy was not wrong.” Another user, @Alagie04, agreed, writing, “He’s right that’s how a 40 year old is supposed to do it.” A third user, @Vaslive12, compared the fan’s form to James’ play in the 2011 NBA Finals.
The Clippers lost the game 125 to 117, adding to the evening’s disappointment for home fans. Austin Reaves led a 16-4 run in the third quarter for the Lakers. James, who is playing in his 24th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers, has averaged 16.3 points, 7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists through three games this season.
