USC stunned the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 30-18 on Saturday night at the Coliseum, securing the largest victory of head coach Lincoln Riley's tenure. The win snapped a difficult stretch for the Trojans, who had suffered a demoralizing loss at Wisconsin the previous week. Rain fell steadily throughout the Halloween evening match, but the weather did little to dampen the energy of the students and fans who flooded the field at the final whistle.

The game was defined by a historic performance from USC freshman Trent Mosley. On the second play of the game, Mosley caught a screen pass and sprinted 69 yards for a touchdown, immediately setting the tone. He finished the contest with five receptions for 101 yards. Jayden Maiava connected with him and others for 222 passing yards and a score, while King Miller and Waymond Jordan added rushing touchdowns. The Trojans scored 30 points, a total that exceeded what Ohio State's defense had allowed in its previous 31 games.

The USC defense anchored the comeback, holding the Buckeyes scoreless for the first 57 minutes. Ohio State relied on freshman quarterback Luke Fahey in the first career start for injured Julian Sayin. Fahey completed 21 passes for 260 yards but was hampered by drops. Bo Jackson rushed for 121 yards, and Jeremiah Smith caught 10 passes for 83 yards. Smith's one-yard touchdown catch with 2:12 remaining broke the Big Ten career touchdown record, though the Buckeyes failed on the subsequent two-point conversion.

Coach Ryan Day acknowledged the challenges his team faced against a young quarterback on the road. "At the end of the day, as a team, we weren’t able to play well enough to support a young freshman quarterback who has his first start on the road like this," Day said. The Buckeyes committed 11 penalties that cost them 75 yards, a factor Day cited in the postgame assessment.

Riley noted the quality of the opponent in the win. "That's two of the best teams in the country on the field right there," he said. "It's going to come down to who plays the situations best, and we did it tonight." USC defensive end Braylan Shelby added, "When we play like that, we're unstoppable."

The result marks the first time the Trojans have defeated a top-12 team under Riley, who has led the program for nearly five years. It is also the first time they have beaten a top-five opponent at home since 2015. Mosley said the team found its identity in the process. "I think we learned how good we are," he said. "When we trust each other and play together as a team, that’s what we can do."

Ohio State will host Oregon on Saturday. USC has a bye week before traveling to Indiana on November 14.
