Portland, Oregon, hosts the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday, October 29, in a contest between two of the few remaining unbeaten teams in the National Basketball Association. The game serves as the final tip on a three-game slate, scheduled for 10:00 PM Eastern Time. Bettors have heavily favored the home side, with Portland receiving 86% of the money at a 7.5-point spread, while the total points line of 232.5 sees similar interest on the over.

The narrative of the season has been driven by Portland's aggressive roster construction. Owner Tom Condon made headlines this summer by trading for Ja Morant from Memphis in exchange for forwards Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. Morant, 27, has immediately integrated into the team, averaging 16.3 points and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 58.8% from the field. His presence alongside franchise icon Damian Lillard creates a backcourt that averages 21.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per night for the 36-year-old Lillard.

Portland’s offense is currently the most potent in the league, leading the NBA with 129.3 points per game. The team also tops the charts in made field goals at 45.7 per game and maintains an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.24. Under the guidance of new head coach Micah Nori, who was hired on a one-year guarantee with team options for the subsequent two seasons, the Blazers have started the season 3-0. This marks only the second time in the last 15 seasons that the team has opened with three straight wins. Nori has also emerged as a candidate for Coach of the Year, currently listed at +1500 odds.

Memphis presents a contrasting storyline. The Grizzlies have started 4-0, a feat last achieved by the 2014-15 team that finished with a 55-27 record. This success has come despite a perceived rebuild phase following the departures of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Morant. The team’s performance is largely anchored by guard Ty Jerome, who is averaging a career-high 29.8 points per game. Jerome leads the NBA in fourth-quarter scoring at 10.0 points and has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week. He is the leading candidate for Most Improved Player at +600 odds.

The Grizzlies’ four wins have come against opponents currently below a .500 record. In their most recent game, Memphis defeated the Utah Jazz 110-105, a contest in which the Jazz lost stars Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen to injury in the first half. The Grizzlies have led at halftime in all four of their games and have out-shot opponents from beyond the arc in every contest, shooting 39.1% while holding foes to 32.4%.

Historical trends favor Portland in this specific matchup. The Trail Blazers defeated Memphis in three of four meetings last season and have won their last three home games against the Grizzlies. Memphis is currently at the end of a four-game road trip, a stretch where they have not completed a sweep since November 2013. The team’s future is being built around young players like Cameron Boozer, a +220 favorite for Rookie of the Year, along with Cedric Coward and Zach Edey.

The game will be the first time Morant faces his former team since the summer trade. He is projected to score between 18 and 24 points in the matchup. For the Blazers, the win would extend their unbeaten streak to four games, keeping them in contention for a strong finish in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies will look to capitalize on their momentum, though their schedule has been relatively favorable thus far. The outcome will be a key indicator of which team’s early-season form is more sustainable as the league progresses.
