Police in Brisbane are investigating possible gang connections in a drive-by shooting that killed a 19-year-old woman. Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau, of Jimboomba, was hit in the head and neck on Saturday night. She died at Princess Alexandra Hospital on Thursday morning.
The attack occurred outside Fitzy's Loganholme, a venue hosting a boxing event at the time. Masked gunmen fired into a crowd. Three men, aged 27, 37, and 38, were also transported to the hospital. One man recovered after surgery, while the other two were released.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin addressed the media on Thursday. He described the investigation as active, with approximately 80 officers assigned to the case. Galpin stated that the team would continue working until the shooters were identified and detained.
"We will not stop until these people are identified and taken into custody," Galpin said. He urged community members who know the perpetrators to share their information. He noted that the victim was simply going out with friends when she was killed.
Police are keeping an open mind regarding the motive. Galpin said that if the inquiry identifies gang members or other forms of organized crime, the scope of the investigation will expand. The victim's family has requested privacy, and Galpin described them as struggling with the loss.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are searching for the individuals responsible for the shooting. No arrests have been made as of Thursday.
